Bangkok Cycling Along The Coast To Samui Island - 210 Km riding. This is a predominantly flat ride (with only a few small hills) on back roads so it is achievable by anyone who can ride a bike for the distances involved - and if not just jump in the air-conditioned support vehicle for a rest. We take a slow and relaxed pace so this trip is well suited to fit riders looking for a relaxing ride or those new to cycle touring who are looking to find out what it's all about. We do spend two very short sections of less than 10km each on the main highway, but if you don't feel comfortable with this just jump in the support van for these bits.
Day 1: Transfer & Cycle Bangkok to Pranburi ( L, D )
After pick up from your hotel in Bangkok it is a 2-3 hour transfer to Hua Hin, the start of our ride. Today offers an easy ride following back roads through small towns and cycling along quiet coastline. In Pranburi, we stay in a comfortable resort right on the coast, well away from the bustle of Bangkok where you started the day.
Day 2: Cycle to Khlong Wan ( B, L, D )
More quiet back roads and beaches await on this great day of riding. We start by transferring a short distance from the hotel and board a boat for a visit to a beautiful cave in which sits, a shrine that is highlighted by a shard of sunlight most mornings. Then we start cycling and have the pleasure of riding through the stark limestone mountains of Sam Roi Yot National Park. If you are really lucky you might spot monkeys hanging onto the rocks. We have lunch on the edge of Prachuap Khiri Khan, the provincial capital, then we ride onwards, through an Air Force base to reach a small fishing village, Khlong Wan where a comfortable little hotel by the water awaits.
Day 3: Cycle to Ban Krut ( B, L, D )
After enjoying breakfast by the sea, we take a quick side trip by van back into the Air Force base to visit some cheeky characters. These are the colony of Langur Monkeys who call the base home. After visiting the monkeys, we take to the bikes and pedal through the narrowest part of Thailand - only 11km wide - the ridge to our right marks the border with Myanmar. Today we ride on a mix of sealed and unsealed roads, passing charming fishing villages on the way to Ban Krut and another lovely resort on the coast.
Day 4: Cycle & Transfer to Chumphon ( B, L, D )
Today's ride will take us alongside the more beautiful coastline and beaches but also through plantations of fruit and rubber. We'll make a stop at one rubber plantation to learn about the long process of extracting the tree sap to turning it into car tires and condoms. The ride ends at lunch and then we transfer to Chumphon, just north of the main town and ferry where we enjoy a last night on the Thai mainland.
Day 5: Ferry to the Islands ( B )
An early start is required this morning to make it in time for the ferry to the island of your choice: Ko Tao, Koh Phangan, or Koh Samui. When you arrive on the island we will have a transfer arranged to take you to your hotel. If you would like to return to Hua Hin or Bangkok we can transfer you to our support vehicle.
