Cycling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai and Chiang Khong is an adventurous journey that covers approximately 800-900 kilometers (500-560 miles) and offers a mix of urban landscapes, rural scenery, and cultural experiences, Terrain: A mix of flat plains, rolling hills, and some mountainous areas, especially as you approach Chiang Rai.This cycling adventure will not only test your endurance but also immerse you in the diverse culture and stunning landscapes of Thailand! we follow the Mae Kok River through a jungle-clad valley and pass hilltribe villages to reach the eccentric White Temple. We have a rest day in Chiang Rai, a charming city with plenty on offer to fill a relaxed day. We then ride through an agrarian landscape of rice and pineapple fields to arrive at the famed Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge at the confluence of the Mekong River. We zip down the river on a boat, explore the ancient city of Chiang Saen, and crown our adventure with a ride along the Mekong to end the tour in the sleepy border town of Chiang Khong.

Day 1: Bangkok – Arrival

Arrive in Bangkok and settle into your hotel. Today you can plan your own day visiting some of the classic highlights of Bangkok. Our guide meets you at 17.00pm at your hotel lobby for tour briefing. We convene tonight to celebrate the start of our awesome journey on a bike.

Day 2: Bangkok - Ayutthaya

Our guide meets you at your hotel lobby at 7:30am and we start with a shuttle transfer from Bangkok to Bang Pa-In. Visit the former summer palace of King Chulalongkornand here and then ride along the Chao Phraya River. Explore the stunning Ayutthaya Historical Park by bike and get to visit various Wats.

At night, we can choose to eat at the in-house restaurant, or head to get a taste of local fare. If your palate is new to Thai food, start with the more popular green curry and rice. Be well rested for the next morning, as we start our Thai adventure with a slightly longer day of cycling.

Day 3: Ayutthaya - Nakhon Sawan

We take a long shuttle transfer in the morning and then go more into the hinterlands of Northern Thailand. The landscape offers amazing insights into hinterlands. As we ride through the bucolic villages, enjoy the sights of chickens, geese, and monitor lizards with paddy fields and plantations in the backdrop.

Day 4: Nakhon Sawan - Kamphang Phet

Today expect to see the hinterland whitewashed with bright green hues of paddy and fruit plantations.

It is not uncommon to see water buffaloes ambling in a row making their way to the rice fields.

Day 5: Kamphang Phet - Sukhothai

The paddy fields cling onto the side of the village road for almost the entire way. The ride is largely on flat roads. We also come across several bucolic villages on the way  perfect to get great photographs of the interiors of Thailand. The locals are quite friendly and done be surprised if you are invited in a home for a cup of tea (or red Fanta).

Day 6: Sukhothai

Today enjoy some of the classic highlights of the original capital of Thailand by bike.

Day 7: Sukhothai - Uttaradit

Our ride is through areas replete with vegetation rice fields, papaya and garlic being the most prominent.

Day 8: Uttaradit - Lampang

Brace for an undulating ride today through a rich green valley, unfolding one dramatic scenery after another. Hilltop farming to teak plantations, bamboo huts by the river and elephants lazily relaxing in the river- this is Thailand at its most authentic best! After being submerged in nature, we take the cycles and ride along the river.

Day 9: Lampang - Chiang Mai

The ride is extremely refreshing as the crisp morning air and clear skies welcome you on the road. We reach Chiang Mai by afternoon.

Day 10: Chiang Mai - Mae Rim - Mae Taeng

A short transfer brings us north where we begin today’s ride on farmer lanes crisscrossing rice paddies. Then it’s onto minor paved roads to reach the shores of Mae Ngat Reservoir. A final section of backcountry cycling leads to a beautiful Buddhist temple around the corner from the day’s hotel

Day 11: Mae Taeng - Chiang Dao Loop

We transfer into the Chiang Dao Valley, home to Thailand’s third largest mountain, where we ride through bountiful farmlands framed by the silhouettes of towering ridges and peaks. Along the way we visit the sacred Chiang Dao Caves.

Day 12: Chiang Dao - Chai Prakan - Fang

Today we transition from the Chiang Dao Valley to the Fang Valley, enjoying a varied ride through hilly terrain along backcountry gravel and dirt tracks and paved minor roads. Post-lunch, an optional afternoon ride or van transfer takes us to the town of Fang, where we spend the night.

Day 13: Fang - Tha Ton

A shorter stage today, with the first half on paved minor roads passing orange groves and the second through plains filled with rice paddies on dirt and gravel trails. The afternoon is free to relax at our tranquil riverside hotel near the town of Tha Ton.

Day 14: Tha Ton - Chiang Rai (White Temple)  

We follow the Mae Kok River south through a jungle-clad valley, cycling on mixed surface roads that lead to hilltribe villages and farms etched into the hillslopes. Eventually, we spill out onto the plains surrounding Chiang Rai to visit the eccentric White Temple before transferring to our hotel.

Day 15 : Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle - Chiang Saen

We weave along the backwaters of Chiang Rai Province to reach the famed Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge at the confluence of the Mekong River. Trading our bikes for a boat we zip down the river to our hotel in Chiang Saen.

Day 16: Chiang Saen - Chiang Khong

Our final ride takes us south along the Mekong River with a few worthwhile detours into the surrounding hills draped by rubber trees. Tonight we toast to our achievement at a farewell dinner in the small border town of Chiang Khong.

Day 17 : Chiang Khong – Departure.

Our cycling tour has ended but you can extend your adventure with a Mekong River boat cruise in neighboring Laos. A drop off at the border crossing or Chiang Rai Airport for onward flights are included.
